The more than 700 islands of the Bahamas bring a wide variety of underwater scenario's and scuba diving opportunities. Visibilities of more than 50meter, more than 5% of the world's coral-species and its formation on a relatively shallow plateau, offer the best scuba conditions a diver can wish for. Columbus named it Gran Bajamar meaning the Great Shallows referring to its Geologic sunken plateau. The wild North Atlantic Ocean on the northeast side and the protected waters separating the Bahamas with Florida and Cuba on the southwest side. There is one other geological phenomenon called the Tongue of the Ocean, a wide 2km deep ocean trench that brings in nutrient waters transported by the Gulf Stream out of Florida. It is the main reason these waters are so rich in aquatic life and corals.

The most popular towns are Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas located on New Providence, and Freeport, the main city on Grand Bahama. All other islands such as Andros, Abaco, Bimini, Berry Islands, Eleuthera, Cat Island, Long Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Acklins, Crooled Islands, Mayaguna, Inagua and several of the collections of Cays are referred to as the Out Islands. Whether you go diving along the steep walls of the Tongue of the Ocean near Andros Island or whether you explore the flats of Abacos. Cave explorers will love the extensive cave systems inside Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama Island while shark divers can see sharks being fed on the Shark Arena and Shark Buoy dives southwest of Nassau, New Providence. American Retiries, backpackers, honeymooners and traditional families on holiday, they all visit this wonderful country with such a pleasant climate, white sanded beaches and such beautiful scenery. Lots of luxury, superb scuba diving, excellent snorkelling and fantastic boating. The perfect holiday for us all.
